Privacy Policy

This policy describes how the Wanawun mobile and web app ("Wanawun", "we", "us") handles your information. The service is operated by Iman Syed ("the operator").
1. Information we collect
Account information
- Email address and password when you sign up with email, or your Google account identifier and email if you use Google Sign-In.
- Display name you choose for the app.
App usage and progress
- Lesson and clip progress, vocabulary you've practiced, and game results (used to power your learning experience).
- Player rating data (ELO) for matchmaking.
Voice recordings
- If you use the in-app recording feature, your audio recordings are uploaded to our storage so you can play them back, compare them to reference audio, and they remain tied to your account. You can delete them at any time.
Technical data
- Standard request metadata (IP address, device type, operating system version) is processed by our hosting and authentication provider for security and abuse prevention.
We do not currently use third-party analytics or advertising SDKs. We do not sell your personal information.
2. How we use your information
- To create and authenticate your account.
- To save your learning progress across devices.
- To provide and improve the lesson, vocabulary, and game features.
- To communicate with you about your account or the service (e.g., email confirmation, password reset).
- To detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and security incidents.
3. Service providers
We rely on the following processors. They are bound by their own data protection terms:
- Supabase — authentication, database, file storage. Supabase privacy policy.
- Google — only if you choose Google Sign-In (we receive your verified email and profile name; we do not access other Google data). Google privacy policy.
- Netlify — hosting of this website and processing of mailing-list signups.
- Expo — used for delivering app updates.
4. Microphone and on-device permissions
The app requests microphone access only when you start a recording. Recordings are uploaded to our storage so they are available across your devices and can be reviewed later. You can delete a recording from within the app, or delete all of your data by deleting your account (see below).
5. Children
Wanawun is not directed at children under 13 (or under 16 in the EU/UK), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
6. Data retention
We retain your account data for as long as your account exists. When you delete your account, your profile, progress, and uploaded recordings are removed within 30 days, except where we are required to retain limited records for legal or fraud-prevention purposes.
7. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal information, and to object to or restrict certain processing. Under the UK GDPR you also have the right to withdraw consent at any time and to lodge a complaint with the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk). To exercise any of these rights, email hello@wanawun.com. You can also delete your account at any time using the instructions on our account deletion page.
8. International transfers
Our service providers may process your data outside your country of residence. We rely on the safeguards offered by those providers (including standard contractual clauses where applicable).
9. Security
We use industry-standard measures to protect your data, including encryption in transit, authentication tokens, and access controls on our backend. No system is perfectly secure; if you suspect a security issue, email hello@wanawun.com.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be announced on this page with an updated "Last updated" date.
